President Donald Ramotar stated in late March that he would be willing to go back to the ballot box to verify the votes cast in last year's general election, adding he believed his People's Progressive Party / Civic won more than 50% of the vote. This came after the main opposition party, A Partnership For National Unity, announced it had found misconduct in the November 2011 elections. Recent events underscore our view that Guyana's political system will continue to stagnate over the coming quarters on the back of political wrangling in the country's first minority government.
