New Government, Same Problems

BMI View: The election of a new government in Jamaica's December 29 snap parliamentary poll does not change our bearish view of the country's economic outlook. The new government will be faced with weak growth, high unemployment and rising violence. They also lack policy tools with which to combat these problems, particularly in light of the country's cripplingly high levels of debt and weak fiscal position.
