Strong Private Sector Growth Unlikely, Despite Reforms

Cuba has enacted a number of economic reforms in recent months, attempting to bolster private sector growth in an effort to offset the implementation of public sector austerity measures. That said, we highlight that Cuba maintains a number of restrictive policies which we expect will deter strong private sector expansion in the coming year, further noting that potential reversals of recently enacted US policies regarding travel to Cuba and remittances would also be highly detrimental to growth.
