Hundreds of people protested on December 8 in front of the Supreme Court against a Dominican government practice of confiscating or annulling birth certificates for residents of Haitian descent. The protesters demanded that the government revoke a 2007 resolution, primarily aimed at tackling official document fraud, which has deprived 1,600 Dominicans of legal documents according to non-profit organizations. The protesters have filed complaints with the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights. The protesters have also claimed the government discriminates against Dominicans of Haitian descent.
