We maintain our downbeat outlook for Jamaica's political stability as the government has failed to significantly stave off crime. Even though the murder rate per 100,000 inhabitants has decreased from 61.6 in 2009 to 52.1 in 2010 according to UN statistics, we believe crime levels are likely to remain elevated over the coming years. Deteriorating economic conditions, the unemployment rate increased from 11.6% in July 2010 to 12.3% in July 2011, are likely to pose risks to the island's social stability and if we do not see a reduction in crime levels over the coming months we could be prompted
