November 2011 | Data ReleaseBrazil recorded the largest primary fiscal surplus for six months in October 2011, taking the year-to-date surplus to BRL119bn, significantly above the levels recorded over the previous two years. But we are not yet convinced that that this is a sign of the government following through on its promise to rein in expenditure, and we doubt the authorities will meet their own primary surplus target of BRL139bn in 2011.
