November 2011 | Risk SummaryDespite concerns from US officials, the Organization of American States (OAS) ultimately gave the nod to President Daniel Ortega's re-election when it published a report on the November 6 general election. Nevertheless, the OAS report did raise a few concerns. The Argentine head of the OAS observer mission stated in the report that the OAS' observers had faced 'serious restrictions' on the ground and that he had observed 'structural faults' in the electoral framework of Nicaragua, reinforcing our own doubts about democratic legitimacy in Nicaragua.
