Costa Rican libertarians officialised the creation of a new right-wing political party on November 20, after a scandal over campaign reimbursements plagued the Partido Movimiento Libertario (ML). Two officials of the ML were arrested on November 4 on fraud charges related to government funds the party received for political workshops that never actually took place. The new political entity, called Partido por La Libertad, aims to attract voters who no longer recognise themselves in the ML, although for now the disintegration of the PML is likely to be welcomed by the centre-left government.
