In a letter to Chilean President Sebastián Piñera and Education Minister Felipe Bulnes, the European Parliament has condemned the Chilean government's excessive use of force during clashes with students over education reforms. Representatives of the E.U. insisted that Chile's highly-privatized education system infringes on lower-income students' right to education and prevents its institutions from conducting high-quality research.
