November 2011 | Ratings UpdateWe are revising down our political risk rating for Barbados to 66.5 from 71.5 on the back of a prolonged period of high unemployment and inflation. As bickering continued between Barbados Finance Minister Chris Sinckler and the opposition leader Owen Arthur over the government's handling of the economy, in September inflation came in at 10.4% y-o-y, while unemployment stood at around 11%, according to estimates of the island's central bank. Both indicators have been in an uptrend for several quarters, with negative implications for the social stability component of our political risk
