October 2011 | Ratings UpdateNicaraguan journalist, Silvia Gonzalez, a reporter for El Diario Nuevo newspaper fled to the U.S. in late September after allegedly receiving death threats from purported supporters of the ruling Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) party. This news comes on the back of accusations of FSLN intervention in the voter registration process, precluding sectors of the electorate from voting. Though incumbent President Daniel Ortega is expected to win the November 6th presidential election, incidences of FSLN interference have increased. We continue to raise concern over the implications of these events and assign downside risks to Nicaragua's political risk
