With inflation picking up in Nicaragua and questions over external account stability budding, we believe the issue of the crawling-peg currency could once again resurface. While Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega's policy trajectory is frequently contradictory and cloudy, we believe that the 5% annual depreciation of the currency is likely to continue for the time being.
