Political Risks Rising Again
September 2011 | Political Risk AnalysisBMI View: Political risks are rising in Jamaica, as a weaker global growth outlook, still-elevated domestic crime levels and potential for damaging corruption allegations following Christopher 'Dudus' Coke's guilty plea place additional pressure on the government's fiscal austerity plans. We expect this to be reflected in higher sovereign borrowing costs over the next few months, and have downgraded our political risk ratings accordingly.
