Retail sales in Brazil fell by 0.2% month-on-month in April after a revised 1.0% m-o-m gain in March, representing the first decline in over a year. We have long held the view that retail sales growth in Brazil would outperform industrial production figures given the booming consumer story and expanding middle class, and the government's attempts to move the economy away from its manufacturing exports base.
