Volatile Financial Account Poses A Considerable Risk

As Panama's current account deficit widens over coming years, the financial account will remain key to the country's external accounts stability. The volatility of shorter-term portfolio investment means Panama must continue to attract high levels of foreign direct investment in order to cover the shortfall created by a rising import bill, and ensure a stable balance of payments position.
