External Accounts Stable, For Now
February 2011 | Economic AnalysisParaguay's balance of payments accounts remained on a stable footing in 2010, with financial account inflows more than covering the current account deficit. However, the accounts remain very reliant on agricultural export revenues, meaning any considerable correction in global commodity prices could widen the current account deficit to an unsustainable level, particularly as foreign direct investment inflows remain relatively low due to political risk.
