Balance Of Payments Outlook Still Fragile

BMI View: Nicaragua's balance of payments outlook remains fragile. Given that the economy is reliant on cheap oil from Venezuela and a large volume of grants and multilateral loans to plug the external account gap, we caution that if levels of foreign investment do not pick up significantly over the coming years, the risk of a crisis somewhere down the line is likely to increase.
