BMI View: Haiti's upcoming presidential election remains wide open, with none of the 19 approved candidates yet to move into pole position. Lack of a strong mandate, combined with low confidence in the country's ability to lead post-earthquake reconstruction efforts, means that the new president will have to ensure continued backing from the international community to create employment opportunities for the island's impoverished population.
